High quality flat and the jumps tempo increases…

‘The coming week combines informative and higher class racing over both codes with the two day meetings at Newmarket and Chepstow leading the way.

As we saw last week there were plenty of returners and respective debuts from the jumpers and that is likely to also be a feature of the week ahead. We have jumps action every day starting at Stratford on softer ground.

One fixture again with Huntingdon on Tuesday this time on Good ground which has been watered. Two cards on Wednesday from Sedgefield and Ludlow. Decent card at Exeter on Thursday. All those meetings currently report ground on the firmer side of Good. However there is a note of caution with the weather midweek. Some forecast models have turbulent conditions sweeping inland from the Atlantic whilst others see the large area of low pressure going too far south to have any great effect.

From Friday the tempo steps up with the two day meetings at Newmarket and Chepstow. Over the two days at the Newmarket Cesarewitch meeting there are ten Group and Listed races headlined by the two Group One events starting with the Fillies’ Mile on Friday followed by the Dewhurst on Saturday. For some this Chepstow meeting signals the start of the main jumps season with big prize money which is sure to see top quality in action. Whether they are fully wound-up on return is always a question. Another factor will be the ground as South Wales is expected to accumulate a large amount of rainfall in the days leading up to the Chepstow meeting.

We stay in South Wales to finish the week with another high prize money card as Ffos Las stage their Welsh Champion Hurdle meeting. Again the ground will be a factor. Connections will not want horses returning from a break to face unduly testing conditions. There are also a few meetings in Ireland through the week which I will be paying close attention to.

Plenty to take from last week which will of use in the forthcoming period. Steady start to the new month with three successful bets from the four advised.
