Rain on its way…

‘Looking at the week ahead including the Bank Holiday on Monday we have eleven summer jumps fixtures whilst the standard on the flat understandably lowers after the peaks of the last few weeks.

No jumps on Monday and a few races of interest for the future at Windsor. The vagaries of the racing schedule are shown on Tuesday with three jump cards starting with Southwell in the afternoon and then the evening meetings at Hexham and Huntingdon; some relatively good prize money on both the evening cards.

I will be concentrating on the sole jump cards from Warwick on Wednesday and Ffos Las on Thursday. The standard increases from Friday with the meetings at Haydock and Goodwood, each hosting Listed contests. There is also an evening card from Worcester.

Into the Whit weekend with the best quality racing on Saturday coming from Haydock with a pair of Group Two contests and a Listed. Goodwood have two Listed contests and the Salisbury evening card contains the Listed Cathedral Stakes. Cartmel provide the jumps action.

Three summer jumps meetings on Sunday from Fontwell, Kelso and Uttoxeter. Will be keeping a close watch on events in Ireland as the Curragh stage their Irish Guineas meeting over the weekend. Monday sees a return to Cartmel plus Huntingdon.

Over the past few weeks the picture on the flat has developed more clarity with top class racing notably from Chester, York and Newbury providing plenty of future pointers. We now head towards one of the highest points of the season with the Epsom Classics meeting and Royal Ascot.

After weeks of dry and sunny weather with courses extensively watering there is welcome relief in the weather forecast, particularly for the National Hunt tracks. The dry spell will continue for most until the weekend when rain is expected to cover large areas of the country. It wouldn’t be a typical British bank holiday without rain!’
