Harri up

Final day of the 2017 flat season plus the jumps campaign continues to develop with interesting cards from Aintree, Wincanton and Kelso.

We are going to look at three races from Wincanton. The going is Soft.

1.15 2m4f Banz Carewear For Kids Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase (Class 4) (4yo+ 0-120)

Most of these are exposed, the exception being the joint top weght Achille.

Hasn’t been seen on the track since finishing a close up fifth in a competitive race at Ascot.

That was his only start since moving to his present stable from France.

Potentially well handicapped, with conditions to suit.

Venetia Williams’ runners are going well.

Difficult to price, but I’ve provisionally put the 7yo grey in at 3/1. Currently a best priced 5/1.

Wincanton racecourse

1.50 2m5½f Z Hotels Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) (4yo+)

Wide open race in which The Organist is worth close inspection.

Much better than latest run suggests, as she was badly hampered approaching the last hurdle and was eased.

The Organist

3.35 3m1f Badger Ales Trophy Handicap Chase (Listed Race) (Class 1) (4yo+ 0-155)

Henllan Harri is expected to go well.

The softer ground will suit and the jockeys claim is a big positive. Odds of 10/1+ look fair.

Henllan Harri

Highlight of this week so far has been the 10/1 winner from our only bet yesterday.   Membership terms have been updated, see all the latest options and get your free information pack at: www.slh.co.uk

Learning day

Good afternoon of racing ahead including three jumps meetings from Wetherby, Ayr and the first card of the season from Ascot. Going to look at three races from Wetherby where the going is Soft with light rain forecast.

1.30 1m7f  Happy 50th Birthday Jayne Forth Novices’ Chase (Class 3) (4yo+)

Born Survivor has point to point experience and shouldn’t lack for fitness on chasing debut. Evens my provisional tissue.

Born Survivor

2.05 2m olbg.com Mares’ Hurdle (Listed Race) (Class 1) (4yo+)

Soft ground is a concern for favourite La Bague Au Roi.

Lady Buttons worth a look in a race which is very difficult to price. Currently a best priced 8/1.

Lady Buttons

3.15 3m bet365 Charlie Hall Chase (Grade 2) (Class 1) (5yo+)

A repeat of Coneygree’s last run in the Punchestown Gold Cup would make him very difficult to beat.

Cue Card is the obvious danger.

Bristol De Mai worth a close look. I’m hoping he can get back to his best after disappointing on his last three starts.

Impossible race to price with confidence.

Coneygree

It is another learning day with so many making their seasonal debuts. The form will start to settle soon, making races easier to price more accurately. For the latest membership terms and your free information pack, go to: www.slh.co.uk

Top class weekend

Tremendous day of racing ahead with four turf meetings in Britain from Cheltenham and Kelso over the jumps and two top class flat cards at Doncaster and Newbury. Plus there is a  decent fixture in Ireland from Leopardstown. There will be plenty to take from today and from the Aintree and Wincanton cards tomorrow.

Looking at two races from Cheltenham this afternoon. The going is on the soft side of Good.

3.10 2m  (Old) Randox Health Handicap Chase (Class 2) (4yo+)

Both Some Plan and Le Prezien have course form that makes them fairly handicapped.

With many here making seasonal reappearances it is a difficult race to price.

Both horses mentioned are worth consideration.

Some Plan

4.20 2m4f  (Old) Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Novices’ Chase (Class 2) (4yo+)

The grey Alcala held every chance when slipping up on the bend to the home straight on latest start.

Two Taffs put up his best performance at Ayr on latest start.

Fitness is not an issue returning from a break.

9/4 joint favs my provisional tissue.

Alcala

Don’t miss this…

I have a special starter membership starting today through to Boxing Day. It is available this weekend only and well worth considering. You can get all the details and take immediate membership by going to: www.slh.co.uk

Five winners from six bets so far this week which included a solid 3/1 winner at Exeter plus another strong and successful lay of a short priced favourite. The sixth consecutive successful lay, prices ranging from 2.6 to 2.1.

Members following my selective extra race analysis were pinpointed 12/1 winner Master Dancer at Cheltenham yesterday.

Take your first steps towards genuinely professional betting today.

Grey day

Five turf meetings for us today with Champions Day at Ascot being the major attraction with over £4 million in prize money.

Fantastic card at Ascot, but not one that appeals to me from a serious professional backing perspective.

It would be good to see Order Of St George and Harry Angel run to their best and confirm their rightful positions at the head of the two markets. Neither should be inconvenienced by the softer ground conditions.

As a clear sign that the winter season is edging closer we have three jump meetings this afternoon. As has been the case throughout this opening month, plenty of runners making their seasonal or racecourse debuts whilst there is cut in the ground. A lot of yards are much further forward this year.

I am going to briefly look at two races from a very interesting Market Rasen meeting, the only fixture today to report the going as Good.

4.00 Capitaine looks to confirm the good impression he made on chase debut.

I go 6/4  as apposed to the majority of the books who are offering even money this morning

Capitaine

4.35 Ready Token can go well fresh. He is on a fair mark with conditions to suit.

4/1 fav on my private tissue.

Ready Token

Class to tell?

Quite short today as I have contacts I wish to talk to after they arrive on course. Those discussions may have a bearing on my betting plans for today and will be briefed to members at 1.00.

It is a very good afternoon of racing and I expect a lot can be gleaned from it as we have decent going conditions for our two races of interest.

3.00 Newmarket 7f (Row) Darley Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) (Colts & Fillies) (Class 1) (2yo)

Expert Eye was noted on debut and duly confirmed that opinion when winning at Goodwood.

He is a very high class prospect and deserves to be at short odds. 1/2 my tissue.

Expert Eye

3.05 Chepstow 2m3½f totequadpot Novices’ Chase (Listed Race) (Class 1) (4yo+)

Finian’s Oscar will be at very short odds to make a successful chasing debut.

However he takes on a worthy opponent in Alcala.

Difficult to price, although I would have them closer together in the market.

Alcala (grey)

Plenty to go at this weekend and I will be looking to build on the two winners from our three bets only so far this week.

Terms for the 2017/18 Jumps Campaign are now available at: http://www.slh.co.uk/201718-jumps-campaign/

They provide you with a significant discount against the standard rates.

Army dreamers

With the abandonment of Ayr we are left with three flat turf meetings in Britain today plus a National Hunt fixture in Ireland. I will be keeping a close watch on the latter as part of my preparations for the fast approaching main jumps campaign.

We are concentrating on a race each from Newbury and Newmarket this morning, the going at both is Good.

2.50 Newbury 6f Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (2yo)

Invincible Army looked to have progressed further when winning on the polytrack at Kempton on his latest start. He sets the form standard.

James Garfield was just touched off over 7f at York after looking sure to win. Dropping back to 6f here isn’t sure to suit.

Enjazaat steps back up in class after easily winning a listed race at Ripon.

Invincible Army looks sure to run a big race and is preferred. 3/1 on offer early.

My tissue:

Invincible Army   5/2

Enjazaat                4/1

James Garfield    4/1

10/1 bar

Invincible Army

5.30 Newmarket 1m (Row) discovernewmarket.co.uk Fillies’ Handicap (Class 3) (3yo+ 0-95)

Panova is a noted horse who is proving to be a disappointment. Cheek-pieces are fitted today.

She ties in closely with Dubara on Goodwood form.

Also at Goodwood, Shenanigans stayed on well to win and is progressive. The market reflects her chance.

I price the main contenders:

Shenanigans  2/1

Dubara   7/2

Panova   7/2

8/1 bar

Panova (far side)

The Ayr Gold Cup meeting was the centrepiece of the week and losing all three days meant we were left with some pretty unsuitable betting cards elsewhere. So it has been a quiet week with one winner from our two bets so far.

The two starter membership options close this weekend. It is an ideal low cost opportunity to sample my work during this transitional phase in the racing calendar. You can start today by going to: http://www.slh.co.uk/special-membership/

Another Defoe winner?

Concentrating on the St Leger this afternoon. The going at Doncaster was described as ‘Good to dead’ by one rider yesterday. There has been some rain overnight and it is officially Good to Soft and Good in places today. Faster ground horses will remain at a disadvantage.

3.35 1m6½f St Leger Stakes (Group 1) (Colts & Fillies) (Class 1) (3yo)

A high class renewal of the St Leger.

Capri sets the standard with his Irish Derby win, and is expected to stay this trip.

Crystal Ocean impressed at Goodwood, although staying this trip is a slight concern.

Defoe is progressing race by race. Conditions will suit and he must run a big race.

Rekindling and Stradivarius are confirmed stayers who can’t be ruled out.

Coronet has to be considered in receipt of her sex allowance.

Defoe is my preferred.

My personal tissue:

Capri  4/1

Defoe  9/2

Crystal Ocean  6/1

Coronet  6/1

Rekindling 7/1

Stradivarius 7/1

20/1 bar

Defoe (right)

Further increased the profits this week with three winners from our only four bets. Looking to finish the summer season strongly before starting on the main jumps campaign.

We currently have  starter membership options available. It is an ideal opportunity to sample my work during this transitional phase in the racing calendar. You can start today by going to: http://www.slh.co.uk/special-membership/

Tin value

Two races for us at Haydock this afternoon and yet again the ground is a dominant factor. There is prolonged rain forecast throughout the day. This falling on already heavy going can only make conditions even more testing.

2.25 6f 32Red Sprint Cup Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Harry Angel is a noted horse who I wouldn’t oppose lightly. However I do have concerns about him being fully effective on soft ground and he looks a vulnerable favourite.

There’s little to choose between The Tin Man and Tasleet, both are effective on soft ground.

Second favourite Brando is another who handles the soft ground, and he impressed when winning in France on his latest start.

Because of conditions it’s a difficult race to price with total confidence.

I go 7/2 the field with The Tin Man looking value at the current 8/1.

The Tin Man

3.35 1m (1m37y) 32Red Mile (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Flaming Spear is expected to go well after putting up a career best when winning impressively on his latest start at York.

A case can be made for almost all of his opponents, but I would be surprised if Flaming Spear doesn’t figure prominently.

6/1+ is fair.

Flaming Spear

We currently have two starter membership options available. It is an ideal opportunity to sample my work during this transitional phase in the racing calendar. You can start today by going to: http://www.slh.co.uk/special-membership/

Treasure trail

The ground is generally good at all the British meetings today. We have one race from both codes this afternoon.

2.25 Sandown

The 7f Group 3 Solario Stakes was first run in 1947 and has produced some notable winners over the years. A race dominated by Henry Cecil in the late 70’s and 80’s.

Seven to post today with the market headed by Masar.

Masar ran well in the Chesham at Royal Ascot. That form gives him every chance, with further progress expected.

Purser impressed when winning on debut, although by a small margin. I expect him to improve significantly for that experience.

I provisionally price them:

Masar  3/1

Purser  7/2

Masar

2.50 Newton Abbot

This looks a very tightly knit 2m 4f  handicap.

Beau Bay won well on chase debut, although that form is suspect.

Double Treasure returns from a break after looking progressive when last seen at Chepstow.

None of the 8 runners can be totally discounted.

My marginal preference is for Double Treasure who is currently a best priced 6/1.

Difficult race to price, but I would be around 7/2 the field.

Double Treasure

Good winner for us yesterday with Deadly Move at Bangor. A very professional ride by the teenage claimer James Bowen on a horse who is far from straightforward.

We currently have an introductory membership through to 1st November. This gives you the final period of the summer season and the opening month of my 2017/18 jumps campaign. Full details at: www.slh.co.uk

Angel of the North

Seven meetings across Britain today, all in England. The going draws a weather map of the past few days from North to South. Cartmel is Good to Soft whilst Newmarket and Windsor are Good to Firm. The remainder are all Good, including York.

We start at the Knavesmire:

3.00 York 6f Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1) (2yo)

No outstanding performer for this Group 2 worth over £127,000 to the winner.

Form horses Cardsharp and Headway can return to form on this better ground after disappointing on soft ground at Goodwood.

Nebo and Frozen Angel are also considered on form achieved.

At current odds Frozen Angel is my preference.

He was a noted horse earlier in the season and has continued to run well.

His latest performances at the Curragh and Maisons-Laffitte are solid efforts.

Today’s conditions will suit and a big run is expected.

Current 8/1+ is fair.

Frozen Angel

4.25 Newmarket 6f (July) Hopeful Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Four non-runners leaving a field of eleven.

Previous noted horse Gifted Master returned to his best when winning a Doncaster.

A reproduction of that run gives him a solid chance.

Conditions will suit.

I would want at least 9/2 to get interested.

Gifted Master

We currently have an introductory membership through to 1st November. This gives you the final period of the summer season and the opening month of my 2017/18 jumps campaign. A good introduction to genuine professional betting. Full details at: www.slh.co.uk
