A full week…

‘Another busy looking week ahead offering the prospect of a further increase in turnover. A largely dry, cold and cloudy start to the week forecast with some uncertainty at this point regarding the weather for the weekend.

Two meetings on Monday from Catterick and Plumpton. The going at Catterick will be Good and the feature race at Plumpton is the rescheduled Sussex National after the meeting based around it was abandoned early last month. With a sustained spell of rain forecast leading up to the meeting there should be decent cut in the ground for the three and a half mile race.

Ayr and Lingfield on Tuesday. The ground at Ayr is currently Soft and there is the risk of overnight frost whilst at Lingfield the two hurdle races which open the card will be of interest. On to Wednesday with Hereford and some good prize money at Wetherby.

Three fixtures on Thursday. Fairly modest cards from Leicester and Newcastle in comparison to the valuable card at Sandown for their Royal Artillery Gold Cup Day, with the richest race being a Grade Two Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. Friday brings a good card at Kelso and a modest one at Fakenham.

Graded action at all three of the Saturday fixtures. At Ascot we have the Grade One Ascot Chase and the Grade Two Reynoldstown Chase plus a few big money handicaps and an attractive Novices’ Hurdle to start the seven race card. Haydock host a pair of Grade Two hurdle contests with the Rendelsham and the Prestige, sandwiched between them is their Grand National Trial. Extensive course work has been carried out to race on fresher ground. Then at Warwick a fairly ordinary card is highlighted by the Grade Two Kingwell Hurdle. We end the week with just the single jumps fixture at Musselburgh plus there are a couple of Listed races at Punchestown worth noting.

Away from the track the major Spring Festivals will come further into focus this week with the acceptors for quite a few of the Cheltenham races taking shape and the Aintree Grand National weights being revealed.
