Busy week ahead…

‘Seventeen jumps fixtures in the schedule for the coming week with the majority already reporting faster ground and watering in place. The current weather forecast shows mild and dry conditions for the opening days of the week with a more unsettled outlook as we approach the weekend.

The general standard of racing will be on the low side with the highlights being a decent card at Haydock on Wednesday, the two day meeting at Newbury starting Friday which also sees the start of the three consecutive days of Go North Finals from Musselburgh, Kelso and finally Carlisle on Sunday.

That faster ground will be a factor. We could see a few more of the quicker ground types in appearance now they have conditions to suit.

Looking back at the Cheltenham Festival. An eventful and sometimes poignant four days of top class racing. Accurate pricing was a challenge with so many unknowns and in the races I did price up true betting value was scarce. Quite a few fingers got burnt over the four days, particularly those trying to buy money with the odds-on ‘bankers’. Whilst always a pleasure to watch high quality horses in action, there were better opportunities for profits to be had elsewhere. The objective is long term profit not short term prestige.
